Vatican Weekend for March 19, 2016

(Vatican Radio) Vatican Weekend for March 19, 2016 features a report on the weekly general audience of  Pope Francis with pilgrims from across the world, the story of Prophet Jeremiah, a musical meditation looking ahead to Holy Week and a conversation with our popular ‘Latin Lover’ focusing on Palm Sunday. Also in this programme Saturday 19th of March marks the day the Church remembers St Joseph. That's why we'd like to remember our Pope Emeritus, Benedict XVI in a special way as his Christian name is Joseph. A date then which provides us with an opportunity to look back at one of the most moving moments of his pontificate. It relates to a place Pope Francis is scheduled to visit when he travels to Poland for World Youth Day at the end of July, the extermination and concentration camp of Auschwitz - Birkenau. A place where over a million and a half people died at the hand of the Nazis during the Second World War, a majority of whom Jews. And a place Pope Benedict XVI visited ten years ago in the footsteps of Saint John Paul II.

A programme presented and produced by Veronica Scarisbrick:
