AMECEA’s laity meet in Zambia

Zambia’s Bishop Clement Mulenga, SDB, says it is the duty of every Christian to heed the call of proclaiming the gospel.

Bishop Clement Mulenga, who is the Bishop of Kabwe Diocese in Zambia, was speaking at an AMECEA conference in his capacity as the Bishop director of the pastoral ministry in Zambia. He urged the laity in the AMECEA region which stands for the Association Member Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa (AMECEA) to spread the gospel and work to end all forms of violence.

AMECEA this weekend concluded a five days conference for the laity that was held in Lusaka, Zambia at St. Mathias Mulumba parish.

“The laity should not be perpetrators of violence in families, communities and the region at large but should dedicate their faith against all forms of violence.” He added, “Your duty is to help communities fight all forms of violence and carry the peace of Christ and give testimony to the spirit of sharing,” Bishop Mulenga said.

“Everyone is called to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ even to the excluded including the ‘lepers and the tax collectors’ of today; it is our duty to rehabilitate them,” the Kabwe Bishop emphasised.

At the same conference, Zambia Episcopal Conference (ZEC) Secretary General, Fr. Cleophas Lungu called upon the laity to be the backbone of the Church and radiate Christian joy in families, marriages and society. The ZEC Secretary-General appealed to the faithful to embrace the works of Mercy as the Church, this year, celebrates the extraordinary jubilee year of Mercy. 

The conference of the AMECEA Council of the Laity attracted more than 30 delegates from Malawi, Kenya, Sudan, Tanzania, Eritrea, Zambia, Uganda, Djibouti and Ethiopia.
