(Vatican Radio) It has been announced that a compensation package – the first – for the family of a victim caught up in the Iguala massacre of student teachers in Southern Mexico will be paid. James Blears reports that it's a practical first step, following official recognition of a law and disorder catastrophe involving Mexican Municipal Police.

The compensation package for the family of David Joshua Garcia Evangelista, was announced by the Government’s Executive Committee for Care of Victims. David was a soccer player who's passing team bus was fired upon by Municipal Police Officers on September 26th, 2014, in the City of Iguala, during a protest involving student teachers, who were arrested by those Police and then handed over to a drug gang. They haven't been seen since.
David's Family will be paid an undisclosed sum of money, appointed a lawyer to follow the unfolding case, granted educational scholarships and provided with psychological counselling. So far only one bone fragment of one missing student among the 43, has been identified. More than 100 people have been arrested including scores of police as well as the ex Mayor of the City.
The Mexican Government has agreed to a comprehensive independent inquiry.
