Happy Birthday! Pope Francis turns 79 on Thursday

(Vatican Radio) Pope Francis turned 79 on Thursday, and people around the world are wishing him a Happy Birthday on social media.

Twitter and Facebook are filled with posts, photos, and memes using the hashtag #HappyBirthdayPopeFrancis.

The German section of Vatican Radio even made a special video – available on Facebook – with the different language sections of Vatican Radio sending the Pope greetings in their native tongue.

During the General Audience on Wednesday, the crowd sang for the Pope, and Mexican journalist Valentina Alazraki gave him a birthday cake in the shape of a sombrero.  Ninety-year-old Italian singer Teddy Reno also sang Pope Francis a song he wrote for the occasion.
