Catholic Legislators of Zimbabwe meet for Holy Mass

Catholic Legislators of Zimbabwe have attended Mass celebrated by Fr. Edward Ndete at the Parliament of Zimbabwe. For the first time, Fr. Ndete, a Catholic priest and registered legal practitioner himself celebrated Mass which made official the Catholic Legislators Network in Zimbabwe. The Legislators network is a worldwide movement.

The Mass came a few weeks after an international Catholic legislators meeting in Rome, Italy. Africa was represented by Zimbabwe, Malawi and Kenya. From Zimbabwe were Hon. Prisca Mupfumira, Hon. Jessie Majome and Hon. Jacob Mudenda.

While in Rome, Catholic legislators discussed issues that affect people worldwide such as matters to do with migrants from war torn countries of Syria, Iraq, Yemen and Libya among others. Other concerns discussed include human trafficking and abortion.

During the Parliament of Zimbabwe Mass, Fr. Ndete advised parliamentarians to always be prayerful and to grow the network so that other Catholic legislators would be attracted to join it.

The Speaker of the National Assembly Hon. Jacob Mudenda said that although members of the network are from different political parties, they have something in common that is great -their faith. He urged his colleagues to continue working hard in spite of political differences.

The executive committee of the Catholic Legislators Network of Zimbabwe comprises  Hon. Prisca Mupfumira (Chairperson), Hon. Never Khanye (Vice Chairperson)  Hon. Jessie Majome ( Secretary), Hon. Jacob Mudenda  (Vice Secretary),  Hon. Keresencia Chabuka (Treasurer) and  Hon. Roselyn Makoni (Liturgy). Honorable Jasmine Toffa and Hon. Leonard Chikomba are Committee Members.

In his book, The ‘Joy of the Gospel,’ Pope Francis wrote “I ask God to give us more politicians capable of sincere and effective dialogue aimed at healing the deepest roots – and not simply the appearances – of the evils in our world. Politics, though often denigrated, remains a lofty vocation and one of the highest forms of charity in as much as it seeks the common good” and such are the kind of politicians the legislators network hopes to have in Zimbabwe.
