Kenya: Eucharistic Congress ahead of Pope Francis’ Visit


The Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB), through its Commission for Liturgy, has organised a National Eucharistic Congress ahead of Pope Francis’ Apostolic visit to Kenya.

The congress, which will take place on 3 October, 2015 at the Village of Mary National Shrine in Subukia, Nakuru, is a preparatory event for the Papal visit to Kenya which is scheduled for 25 to 27 November 2015. A national prayer day is also envisaged on the preparatory calendar..

In an interview with KCCB, the episcopal conference’s Acting General Secretary, Fr. Dr. Charles Odira, said that the Eucharist is the centre of Christian life hence the Eucharistic congress celebration will be a moment to deepen the Christian faith.

Fr. Odira, who is also the National Executive Secretary of the KCCB - Commission for Pastoral and Lay Apostolate, said the Church aims at sensitising, emphasising and promoting the Eucharistic adoration in the lives of the Christians.

He confirmed that all Kenyan Bishops, the clergy and religious and the laity from all the 25 Dioceses would attend the Eucharistic congress. A total of over 20,000 participants are expected to take part in the congress. 

According to the official programme, the celebrations will commence on Friday, 2 October, 2015. In the afternoon of the day, Mass will be celebrated followed by the rosary, Way of the Cross, talks, Eucharistic adoration and an evening vigil. On Saturday, 3 October, 2015, there will be a procession and Holy Mass at 10.00 am followed by speeches from the bishops.
