Kenyans arrive in Philadelphia for World Meeting of Families


A Kenyan delegation of 21 persons is in Philadelphia, United States for the World Meeting of Families. The Kenyan Delegation left for Philadelphia, USA on 19 September 2015, to represent the Kenyan Church at the 8th World Meeting of Families.

The Bishop of Meru Diocese, Salesius Mugambi is leading the Kenyan delegation in his capacity as Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) Chairman for the Family Life Programme. Bishop Philip Anyolo of Homa Bay is expected to join the delegation on 24 September.

In an interview with ‘Waumini News Today,’ Kenya’s National Family Life coordinator, Mrs. Theresa Abuya said the Kenyan team in Philadelphia expected to learn a lot in the four-day meeting aptly themed, ‘Love is our mission: the family fully alive.”

“We are excited about the World meeting of Families since it is an opportunity for us to learn and be able to implement and share the knowledge and experiences of back home. I am also happy that I will meet His Holiness Pope Francis,” she said.

From 22 to 27 September, families from around the world will gather in Philadelphia to pray, learn and celebrate the gift of the family through planned workshops and panel discussions..

Pope Francis who is already in the US is scheduled to arrive in Philadelphia on Saturday, 26 September 2015. While in Philadelphia, Pope Francis will join celebrations at the Festival of Families and preside over the concluding Mass on 27 September.
