Cardinal Ranjith, Pope's envoy to India’s National Eucharistic Congress ‎

Pope Francis on Saturday appointed Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith of Sri Lanka as his special envoy to the National Eucharistic Congress of India, scheduled from Nov. 12-15 in Bombay Archdiocese.  The theme of the National Eucharistic Congress is “Nourished by Christ, to Nourish Others”.  The Eucharistic Congress was launched at an event on August 15, with the release of the logo, prayer, hymn and a website, nationaleucharisticcongress.in.  

Bombay Archdiocese had hosted the International Eucharistic Congress of 1964, when Pope Paul VI visited India.  The Archdiocesan Eucharistic Congress was held last year.

A Eucharistic Congress gathers together the clergy, religious and laity to ‎promote the awareness of the central place of the Eucharist in the life and mission of the Catholic ‎Church. It helps improve the understanding and celebration of the liturgy and draws attention to the ‎social dimension of the Eucharist.
