Thai Catholic spokesman: shock and fear in Bangkok


(Vatican Radio) The Director of Catholic Social Communications in Bangkok, Apichart Intravisit, said there is shock and fear among the Thai people following Monday’s deadly bomb blast in the capital. Intravisit described how many of Bangkok’s normally bustling streets in the central areas were quite empty on Tuesday and he said the country’s social media is rife with conflicting theories on who is behind this bombing which has been called the country’s worst ever incident. He spoke to Susy Hodges.

Dr Intravisit says many conflicting theories are circulating on Thai social media as to who could be behind this deadly bombing. He said some are blaming it on internal political dissident whilst others are pointing the finger at international terror networks.  He said the unprecedented attack has caused deep shock in Bangkok and people are “very fearful”.  He also described how the capital’s normally bustling streets in the central areas near the bombing “were quite empty” on Tuesday with far less traffic than normal.
