Archbishop Lukudu: It is in your power to stop the war

South Sudan’s Bishops have been speaking to their nationals, at various occasions, in commemoration of the country’s fourth independence anniversary which fell on 9 July 2015.

Archbishop Paolino Lukudu Loro of Juba Archdiocese in South Sudan has deplored the behaviour of the people of South Sudan especially their political leaders for prolonging the suffering of South Sudanese through war. He told South Sudan’s leaders that it was in their powers to stop the war if they wanted to.  This is according to a report availed to Vatican Radio by Radio Bakhita through CRN. Archbishop Lukudu also told the people to place their hope for better life in God and not in military leaders.

The Archbishop disclosed that the Church in South Sudan was involved in a new peace mediation initiative to bring about reconciliation and forgiveness between South Sudan’s warring factions. He further challenged those who have contributed to South Sudan’s atrocities to repent and seek God’s mercy.

In a similar message, Radio Easter reported that Yei Diocese Bishop Erkolano Lodu Tombe regretted that South Sudan was celebrating the fourth Independence Day amidst an ongoing war. He called upon South Sudan’s warring parties to shun atrocities and human rights infringements.
