South Sudan Independence: Nothing to celebrate

The South Sudan National Political Alliance says as the country bleeds in war it has nothing to celebrate on the fourth independence anniversary which falls 9 July.

The Alliance of 17 opposition political parties says it is only marking a solemn prominent landmark in South Sudan history but has nothing to celebrate since war rages on between government and the ‘SPLM/A in Opposition’ adding on to the number of martyrs, wounded and disabled people.

National Alliance Secretary-General Martin Aligo in a press conference wonders what is there to celebrate in a warring nation when orphans, widows and all citizens hopelessly continue losing relatives at the hands of government and SPLM/A in Opposition.

On behalf of the political alliance, General Aligo says there is no justification at all to spend hundreds of million South Sudanese Pounds on celebration amidst looming famine and misery.

SPLM for Democratic Change or SPLM-DC Chairman Dr Lam Akol Ajawin says South Sudanese have nothing to celebrate on the fourth independence anniversary, except marking July 9 as a historic day.

He has challenged government to stop squandering money on harmful ventures instead of prioritizing peace.
