Al-Shabaab attack in Kenya kills 14

(Vatican Radio)  Gunmen from the Islamic militant group Al-Shabaab attacked a residential complex in northeast Kenya on Monday night, killing 14 people.

The Kenyan Red Cross told the Reuters news agency that most of those killed were quarry workers who died in their sleep.

At least 11 others were also wounded in the attack that took place soon after 2 a.m. local time in the town of Mandera.

Monday night's raid will likely put pressure on President Uhuru Kenyatta to increase the country's security after a spate of Al-Shabaab attacks, the worst of which killed 148 people at a university in eastern Kenya's Garissa County in April.
