When St Francis inspired hymn writers with his Canticle of the Sun

(Vatican Radio) Saint Francis of Assisi loved the world of nature. It brought out the poet in him. He praised God for his goodness in creating such beauty. "Be praised My Lord, with all your creatures", he once sang, leading his monks in prayer.

In this musical meditation Monsignor Philip Whitmore tells us how Saint Francis loved the idea of calling on the heavens and the earth to join in praise of the Lord. And how he inspired hymn writers too. His Canticle of the Sun is the basis of a popular hymn all Creatures of our God and King, lift up your voice and with us sing, O praise Him, alleluia."

A programme presented by music historian Monsignor Philip Whitmore and produced by Veronica Scarisbrick
