Zimbabwe’s Catholic youth celebrate Africa Day

Youths from various Catholic schools in Zimbabwe have celebrated Africa Day at Arrupe College with a concert dubbed, “Tiri Africa,”  which means, “We Are Africa.”

The concert was hosted by Young People for Others (YPO).

Africa Day is a day that is celebrated annually throughout Africa.  Kenyan ambassador to Zimbabwe, Ambassador Lucy Chelimo who was the guest of honour at the event told the youths that they had the responsibility to care for their friends and should be engaged in sharpening their future and that of others.

“Have that desire in you to work for a better United States of Africa," she said challenging all Africans to be proud of who they are.

Fr Ignatius Padya, who is the founding Spiritual Director of YPO, said it was very encouraging to commemorate the day through music and dance as these cultural forms of expression were the fuel that gave young people energy to keep going.

The concert featured performances from artists such as Tariro Negitare, Maria 'Vera' Chisvo, So Profound, Rufaro as well as music and dance from students of the various schools present.
