Memories of Mosul by a former resident

(Vatican Radio)  We look back at last year’s capture of Iraq’s second city of Mosul by so-called Islamic state fighters on the first anniversary of the city’s fall (June 10th) with the help of a former resident. Suha Rassam is an Iraqi Chaldean Catholic now based in London but who was born and brought up in Mosul and had many family and friends still living there until last year. Susy Hodges asked her about her feelings on this anniversary and whether she believes the city can be recaptured by Iraqi government forces.  She also talks about the desperate plight of Christians displaced from Mosul after its capture who are now dependent on help from the Church and from charities in order to survive.

Listen to the interview with Dr Suha Rassan, author of a book about the history of Christianity in Iraq:
