Pope in Sarajevo: Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina

(Vatican Radio) Pope Francis has set the stage for his one day visit to the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina on Saturday 6th of June by sending a video-message to the people of Sarajevo. In this message he highlights the motto for this trip across the Adriatic Sea  'Peace be with you'. A significant theme for a nation with a legacy of engrained ethnic and political divisions.

When he first announced he would visit Sarajevo on the 1st of February he highlighted how it would be an opportunity to encourage the Catholic minority in this majority Muslim nation to seek dialogue and friendship within their communities, to support ecumenical and inter-religious dialogue, and especially encourage peaceful coexistence for the people of this nation. A nation which as we know was ravaged by war from 1992 to 1995 in a conflict that left thousands dead and millions displaced.

If you wish to find out more about this nation's expectations for the visit you can listen to the Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slavica Karačić in an interview with Veronica Scarisbrick:
