Venezuela opposition march puts pressure on President Maduro

(Vatican Radio) The list of former Presidents who have requested and been denied Access to visit jailed oppositon leaders in Venezuela is growing.

It's again the turn of the ex President of Colombia and now the ex President of Peru, and mass Street protests are backing up their calls for the mens' liberty.

Listen to the report by James Blears

This is dejà vue for ex Colombian President Andres Pastrana.  In January he and ex President of Chile Sebastian Pinera were refused permission to visit jailed Venezuelan oppositon leader Leopoldo Lopez.   Now Pastrana and Jorge Quiroga who once led Peru,  have been rebuffed in their attempts to visit Lopez and Daniel Ceballos a former Mayor, who've both gone on hunger strike.

In January Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro said it was all part of a coup plot against him.  He hasn't changed his view or stance since then.

For almost six months last year there was serious unrest nationwide in Venezuela in which 43 people died.  And on Saturday thousands mostly clad in White marched through Venezuelan Cities protesting the economic chaos in Venezuela and demanding the reléase of ALL  imprisoned oppostion activists.  Leopoldo Lopez himself had called for this coordinated protest in a video smuggled out from the military prison in which he's being held.

It all applies yet more political pressure on President Maduro, as Venezuela sinks deeper into poverty on many levels.
