Strengthen the Church’s media presence in Kenya

The outgoing Bishop chair of the Social Communications Commission at the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB), Mombasa Archbishop Martin Kivuva said that Catholic communicators must strive to strengthen the Church’s media presence in the country and also focus on the Church’s core function which is evangelization.

He said, Catholic media, in particular, must take the lead in highlighting the dangers of corruption, religious radicalisation and insecurity in the country.

Speaking during a strategic planning workshop for Kenyan Catholic communicators, his last function as the Bishop chair of the social communications commission, Archbishop Kivuva said media outlets must be in the forefront of shining the spotlight on social evils in society.

The Archbishop said he was determined to strengthen Catholic media outlets in the Archdiocese of Mombasa. His first focus in this regard,  would be to set-up a new Catholic radio station, Lwanga FM to cover the entire coastal region.

Incoming Bishop Chair of the Social Communications Commission, who is also the new Bishop of Kakamega, Bishop Joseph Obanyi paid glowing tribute to Archbishop Kivuva whom he described as a mentor in Catholic communications.

“I am encouraged to take up this new position, I am confident that I will be able to learn and work with the team and I am looking forward to working together with everyone.” Bishop Obanyi said.
