New earthquake strikes Nepal


(Vatican Radio) A major earthquake has struck near Mount Everest in eastern Nepal, two weeks after more than 8,000 people were killed in a devastating quake.The US Geological Survey said the quake had a magnitude of 7.3, just a little less than the earthquake on 25th April which was centred in western Nepal.

The latest tremor was felt as far away as the Indian capital Delhi, as well as Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. Strong tremors were felt in the capital of Nepal, Kathmandu, which was badly damaged in last month's earthquake.

UNICEF recently warned that Nepal’s children were among the worst affected by the April quake, with nearly a million of them unable to return to school, unless urgent action is taken to provide temporary learning spaces and repair damaged school buildings

The charity World Vision International, which is present in more than 60 countries, specializes in helping children in deprived areas or countries hit by natural disasters. The head of World Vision’s Italian office, Emanuele Bombardi, told us about short and longer term plans to help children suffering from the previous emergency in Nepal….
