Pope Francis to participate at opening of Expo 2015 in Milan


(Vatican Radio) Pope Francis will speak on Friday May 1st at the opening ceremony of Expo Milan 2015 with a live link via television in collaboration with Italian broadcaster Rai and CTV, the Vatican Television Center.

The decision by the Pope to participate at the opening of the exhibition underlines the involvement of the Church in relation to the themes of the event, "Feeding the planet and  Energy for Life "which is dedicated to this edition of  Expo.

The Holy See is present at Expo 2015 officially as an exhibitor country, with its own pavilion entitled "Not by bread alone".

Caritas Internationalis also has its own exhibition space.

Both the Holy See and Caritas Internationalis are presenting a large cultural program throughout the exhibition which will focus on the multiple dimensions, that is, the cultural, spiritual, social, and the economic challenges that is entailed with regard to food.

The Ambrosian Church led by Cardinal Angelo Scola,Archbishop of Milan is also presenting a full programme of events to coincide with Expo 2015  takes place.
