Australian police arrest five teens in terror plot

(Vatican Radio) Australian police arrested five suspects in Melbourne early Saturday morning in connection to a planned terrorist attack.

Police say the suspects – all either 18 or 19 years old – were targeting officers who are expected to participate in next week’s Celebration of Anzac Day, an annual day of remembrance in Australia and New Zealand, commemorating the First World War.

Police say they believe these teens were influenced by the so-called Islamic State.

Australia’s National Counter Terrorism Manager, Neil Gaughan, spoke at a press conference about the arrests.
