Jesuit priest Fr Alexis Prem Kumar from southern India’s Tamil Nadu state, was
kidnapped by unknown gunmen last June 2, near Herat in western Afghanistan, while
visiting a school for returnee refugees run by the Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS).
After over 8 months of captivity, the priest was released on Feb. 22 and is back
home. On the occasion of Easter, the 47-year old priest reflected on his 263-day
imprisonment, saying it was his participation in the Passion of Christ, and now he
is living his Easter freedom.
