South Sudan priest celebrates Easter with prison inmates

South Sudan’s Wau Diocese Vicar General, Fr Germano Bernando has encouraged prison inmates of Wau not to lose hope in God. Fr. Bernando was speaking when he presided over the Easter Eucharistic celebration at Wau Central Prison.

In his homily to about 300 inmates, Fr. Bernando  said the resurrection of Jesus Christ should be an encouragement to prisoners that God is with them and that he does not abandon them. He advised the prisoners to make use of their time in prison just as St Paul did by reflecting on the word of God and working towards changing their lives.

Wau Central Prison is one of South Sudan’s heavily populated prisons. The conditions at the prison leave much to be desired. The prisoners live in constant danger of serious disease outbreak.
