BringBackOurGirls want Buhari to find and bring back Chibok girls

Nigeria’s Leadership newspaper reports that the group that has been advocating for the return of Nigeria’s abducted Chibok girls want the new Government of Muhammadu Buhari to prioritise finding the school girls and returning them home.

The #BringBackOurGirls advocacy group was speaking ahead of a transitional committee meeting  between outgoing President Goodluck Jonathan and Nigeria’s President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari.

Nigeria’s former minister of education and one of the leaders of the #BringBackOurGirls group, Obiageli Ezekwesili called on the transitional meeting to place high on the agenda, the bringing back of the remaining 219 Chibok girls. The advocacy group  says they will keep up the advocacy until the girls are returned.

“All we need is to bring back the Chibok girls because they have overstayed in the hands of their abductors,” Ezekwesili said. Meanwhile, in a sign of solidarity, #BringBackOurGirls group were today scheduled to mourn the 148 persons murdered in Kenya by the Al shabaab terrorists.

On the night of 14 to 15 April 2014, dozens of heavily armed Boko Haram insurgents stormed a government-run boarding secondary school in the town of Chibok in Borno State, northeastern Nigeria, abducting scores of schoolgirls from their dormitories. In total, 276 female learners were kidnapped. With the discovery of girls who escaped from captivity, authorities now believe the number of the schoolgirls being held by Boko Haram stands at 219.
