Airliner carrying 150 people crashes in French Alps

(Vatican Radio) A passenger jet carrying 150 people crashed Tuesday in a remote area of the French Alps as it flew from Barcelona to Duesseldorf.

Listen to our report:

The Germanwings Airbus A320 plane left Barcelona at 9:55 a.m. It then crashed near the popular ski resort of Pra Loup, in an area with few accessible trails.

“The conditions of the accident, which have not yet been clarified, lead us to think there are no survivors,” said French President Francois Hollande.

The last time a passenger jet crashed in France was in 2000, when a supersonic Concorde crashed on takeoff, killing 113 people.
