(Vatican Radio) On the occasion of Pope Francis’ Apostolic Visit to Naples Saturday, the Archbishop of Pompei and the Sovereign Order of Malta have dedicated a soup kitchen to the Holy Father.
Archbishop Tommaso Caputo, who welcomed Pope Francis upon his arrival, said that
this was a concrete gesture of thanks which bears out the centrality of the poor in
his magisterial teachings and in his heart.
“Love for one’s neighbours, the last, the marginalized – said the Prelate – is the
central message of the Gospel, as the Holy Father often reminds us. It is also the
fulcrum of all social works.”
The soup kitchen for the poor operates in the Casa del Pellegrino and serves over
100 meals daily to the poor of Pompei and surrounding areas.
