The Dominican institute Mosaiko in Angola on 31 January ended a Social Week on "Equal Opportunities in Angola." The Social week started on Tuesday 27 January and ended Saturday 31 January 2015 in Luanda, the capital city. The objectives of the last five days were to reflect and increase awareness among participants on the importance of social responsibilities and to seek concrete ways to testify to the Gospel of Christ in today’s world.
Participants of the week-long event reflected on various aspects of Equal Opportunities ranging from Government policies on the promotion of equality; gender equality in general; equal access to resources; economic democracy and human development; the fight against poverty and irregularities in Angola as well as the role of the Church in the promotion of equal opportunities for all.
Although the Social Week is ecclesial in nature, the week was seen as a social event open to all voices in Angola.
Institute Mosaiko aims at promoting mutual understanding and creating pillars for future collaboration within Angola. Founded in 1997 by Dominican missionaries, the Angolan Institute Mosaiko was the first non-profit institution to explicitly take the promotion of human rights in Angola as its mission. Guided by a strong social commitment, the institute seeks the respect for human dignity and the development of Angolan society. It is particularly concerned that all Angolans parcticipate in the democratic process of the country.
Brother Júlio Candeeiro, OP is the the current director of Institute Mosaiko.
