Philippines: where generosity, religiousness and creativity meet

(Vatican Radio) With the spotlight on the Philippines and its people, the image of a nation that has undergone many difficulties and that continues to struggle with widespread poverty emerges.

What also emerges is that it is a nation of contrasts, where some of the richest people on the planet live side by side with the poorest of the poor, and where too many stereotypes deriving from the fact that millions have emigrated in search of employment continue to “categorize” Filipinos, their creativity, their generosity and their resilience.

Nilda Castro is the assistant to the Apostolic nuncio to the Philippines, Monsignor Giuseppe Pinto. She also worked for 25 years at the Pontifical Council for Migrants in Rome.

In this interview with Vatican Radio’s Sean Patrick Lovett, she speaks of how the outside world views the Philippines and of the deep religiousness of its people.
