Police in Paris search for gunmen after attack on magazine

(Vatican Radio) 12 people were killed in Paris today when masked gunmen stormed the offices of the satirical magazine ‘Charlie Hebdo’ and opened fire before escaping.  The magazine’s caricatures of the Prophet Mohammad have frequently drawn condemnation from Muslims and President Francois Hollande said it was definitely a terrorist attack. He said several other attacks have been thwarted in France in recent weeks.

Two police officers were among those killed in the attack and a major police operation is underway to try and find the gunmen who fled in a car which was later abandoned. Seven other people were injured in the attack with several of them reported to be in critical condition. ‘Charlie Hebdo’ editor, 47 year old Stephane Charbonnier, who was among those killed had received death threats in the past and was living under police protection.
