Former IOR directors under investigation

(Vatican Radio) In a statement to reporters on Saturday, Father Federico Lombardi, SJ, head of the Holy See Press Office, confirmed that the Promoter of Justice for Vatican City State had opened an investigation into two former directors of the Institute for the Works of Religion (IOR, known colloquially as the ‘Vatican Bank’). Father Lombardi said the investigation centred on suspicions of embezzlement between the years 2001 and 2008, suspicions that arose during the internal review process begun in 2013. He also noted that the accounts of the individuals under investigation had recently been seized “as a precautionary measure.”
