Holy See, Australia mark diplomatic anniversary

(Vatican Radio) The outgoing Secretary for Relations with States of the Secretariat of State of the Holy See, Archbishop Dominique Mamberti, was in Australia on Monday, to mark the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Australia and the Holy See and the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Apostolic Delegation to Australasia. The ceremony took place at the Australian Catholic University in Sydney.

In remarks prepared for the occasion, Archbishop Mamberti said, “I wish to thank all who have worked tirelessly to develop the good relations which exist between the Holy See and Australia.” He went on to describe the relations as  having made possible successful cooperation in human rights, religious and political freedom, integral human development and a more inclusive society for all. “It is my hope,” he said, “that this visit will serve to consolidate our relationship and lay the foundations for increased cooperation in the future for the good of all humanity.”
