Nigeria: blast kills 10, Boko Haram suspected

(Vatican Radio) An explosion killed 10 people in Nigeria's northeastern State of Yobe on Monday as Shi'ite Muslims marched through a market, marking the ritual of Ashoura. The attack occured in the town of Potiskum, in a territory at the center of the insurgency being conducted in the country by the Islamic Boko Haram group. The attack follows one on Saturday, in which at least 18 people were killed. Boko Haram has bombed schools, churches and mosques, kidnapped women and children, and assassinated both politicians and religious leaders during the course of a years-long campaign to overthrow the government and establish Islamic law throughout Nigeria.
