Pope Paul VI: his love for the priesthood

(Vatican Radio) Looking ahead to the beatification of  Pope Paul VI  scheduled for the forthcoming 19th of October, Veronica Scarisbrick shares with you  a conversation with someone who knew him well. He's the late Carmelite Father Redemptus Valabek who met this future blessed on more than one occasion.

Listen to Veronica Scarisbrick's archive interview with the late Carmelite Father Redemptus Valebek :

In an archive interview with Veronica Scarisbrick he highlights this often misunderstood twentieth century pope's  great love for the Church and its ministers at a time in the aftermath of Vatican II when many were leaving the priesthood. One example Father Valabek  describes relates to the fiftieth anniversary of this pope's ordination to the priesthood when he asked to personally preside over the ordination of 278 men in a ceremony that lasted from about 5 pm to  10 pm.

Another thing Father Valabek points to in this interview is the ability of  Paul VI to comprehend and zero in  on the specific charism of each religious order, a reality he witnessed during an audience with his own Carmelite order.
