The Sudanese Woman rearrested, along with her husband and children

A Sudanese Christian woman, who was condemned to death last month for allegedly committing the "crime" of apostasy, then released Monday, has now been re-arrested.

About 40 security agents detained her along with her husband and two children at Khartoum airport when they were leaving the country for the United States. Ibrahim was convicted last month of apostasy, a crime which carries the death sentence , because she married Wani, a Christian, in 2011. Although she was raised according to her mother’s Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity, the courts considered her Muslim because her father was Muslim.

On Monday, Ibrahim had been released from custody following a ruling by an appeals court in which her death sentence was cancelled. The authorities have not provided any explanation for the re-arrest and nothing is known about where she and her family are being held.
