Pakistanis displaced by govt offensive


(Vatican Radio) Government forces of Pakistan are currently conducting an offensive against Taliban fighters in North Waziristan, one of the effects of which is displacement of local people.

 

The United Nations Refugee Agency, UNHCR, says government registration figures show more than 400 thousand people have already escaped from fighting in the region.

 

The UN’s World Food Programme has begun to distribute food to people who have been displaced by the offensive.

 

UNHCR spokesperson Dan McNorton offered an estimate of the humanitarian impact of the fighting.
