S. Korean Churches create ecumenical commission

The Catholic Church and 10 other Christian denominations in South Korea have created a new organization to share the "common roots" of the Christian faith, contribute to the social evangelization of the nation and face the challenges of the mission together. The new organization called the Commission on Faith and Order of Korean Churches will meet at least once a month to promote ecumenical dialogue and tackle common challenges together.  The signatories of the agreement, signed on May 22 in Seoul agreed that the Catholics and the National Council of Churches will govern the working group and convene the meetings.

The Catholic Bishops' Conference of Korea (CBCK) explained that the purpose of this new Commission is to keep contacts alive by studying, working and praying together. In a post on the CBCK website on May 30, the bishops said that mutual dialogue "will play a primary role in our relationship, to help Christians to share the common roots of our faith and face the tasks imposed by Christian mission".  (Source: AsiaNews)
