Syria conflict: Papal charity coordinates Catholic aid action

(Vatican Radio) Pope Francis sent a Message on Friday to his charitable office, the Pontifical Council Cor Unum, which was hosting a coordination meeting of Catholic organizations helping people caught up in the Syrian civil war. In the Message, Pope Francis writes, "Dear brothers and sisters, your charitable work and assistance is an important sign of the closeness of the whole Church, and the Holy See, in particular, to the Syrian people and the other peoples of the Middle East."

Some 25 organizations operating in Syria and neighboring countries discussed the progress achieved since their first meeting last June, outlined critical issues and identified priorities for the future. Cor Unum member and former President of Caritas Lebanon, Msgr. Simon Faddoul, was present for Friday’s meeting.  He told Tracey McClure that there are no winners in the Syrian war, which is also overwhelming neighboring Lebanon and Jordan with millions of refugees.
