Two explosions claim lives in the Kenyan capital

At least ten people were killed on Friday in two explosions in the Kenyan capital Nairobi. The country’s National Disaster Operation Centre said one blast targeted a mini-van that Kenyans use for public transportation while a second explosion went off in a market. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attacks which injured about 70 people.

The twin blasts came the same week the United States and the U.K. issued renewed warnings about possible terror attacks in Kenya.

UK holiday operators Thomson and First Choice on Thursday started evacuating hundreds of tourists from the east African nation and cancelled all flights to Mombasa until October because of the security alert. The U.S. Embassy says that more than 100 people have been killed in shootings, grenade attacks and small bombs in Kenya over the past 18 months.
