(Vatican Radio) The United Nations-Arab League Envoy for Syria, Lakhdar Brahimi, has
stepped down. Brahimi had been working since August 2012 to try to help the Syrian
government and opposition to find a political solution to the ongoing civil war.
The
conflict, which has entered its fourth year, has killed more than 100,000 people.
Millions of others have been displaced within the country or forced to flee.
UN
Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon made the announcement to reporters on Tuesday and expressed
his regret about Brahimi’s resignation.
