Who was Paul VI, the twentieth century pope to be beatified ?


(Vatican Radio) Pope Francis has approved the promulgation of  the decree for the cause of beatification of one of his predecessors to the See of Peter,  Pope Paul VI. The approval was announced Saturday May 10 and the beatification ceremony is scheduled to take place October 19, 2014. 

Paul VI, Giovanni Battista Montini was elected to the papacy  on June 21, 1963 following Saint John XXIII. He was a man full of contradictions, baffling yet brilliant, austere yet personable, enigmatic yet firm in his authority and found himself with the delicate task of closing and implementing the Second Vatican Ecumenical Council.
