Nigeria: pressure mounts in search for kidnap victims
US Secretary of State John Kerry says his government will do everything it can to
help free hundreds of Nigerian schoolgirls kidnapped last month by Islamic militants.
Kerry was speaking in Ethiopia amid growing criticism of the international response
to the abductions. Pressure is mounting on western nations to do more to help free
the victims – much of it coming from within those nations themselves.
Nigerian
police said last week that the actual number abducted girls and young women had risen
to more than 300 and that 276 remain in captivity. 53 students have escaped their
captors. None have been rescued by the military. Listen:
