Auxiliary Bishop Theotonius Gomes of Dhaka retires. Appointment in Myanmar


April 28, 2014 - ‎Pope Francis on Monday accepted the resignation of Auxiliary Bishop Theotonius ‎Gomes of Dhaka Archdiocese, Bangladesh, who reached the ‎retirement age of 75 on April 9. He was born in 1939 in Madbortek, Bangladesh, was ordained a priest ‎of the Congregation of Holy Cross in 1964 and appointed bishop of Dinajpur in 1978. In 1996 he was ‎transferred from Dinajpur to be the Auxiliary Bishop of Dhaka. ‎
Earlier on Saturday, Pope Francis appointed a new Apostolic Administrator to the diocese of Loikaw in Myanmar. Auxiliary Bishop Stephen Tjephe of Loikaw is now appointed as Apostolic Administrator, after the Pope accepted the resignation of Bishop Sotero ‎Phamo who stepped down on health grounds.
