For Sri Lanka’s bishops, Easter is a time of reconciliation for their people
April 16,2014: The bishops of Sri Lanka in their Easter message in Sinhala, Tamil
and English, called on fellow Sri Lankans to search for "true peace" that "can
be lived united with God, ] in the aftermath of a war that ravaged the country. "Whilst
we observe certain positive signs of development in the country, the need is also
felt to promote unity and reconciliation among the people in our motherland. This
can only be done if we respect one another and safeguard each other's dignity," they
said. The Easter message released on Tuesday is signed by Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith
Archbishop of Colombo and Bishop Valance Mendis of Chilaw, respectively president
and secretary general of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Sri Lanka (CBCSL). The
bishops message said “True peace is truly a gift and can be experienced united with
God. Let us share the same gift of peace in our times in the aftermath of a war that
ravaged the country." For the prelates, this "largely depends on equality and justice
granted to all citizens. May everyone experience the gift of peace in their private
lives and in our dear country" they added. Source: AsiaNews
