Pope’s condolence message on death of Suarez Gonzalez former PM of Spain
March 26, 2014: Pope Francis expressed his prayerful condolences on the death of
former Spanish prime minister - Adolfo Suarez Gonzalez, who died on Sunday.
A message sent in the pontiff’s name by Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro
Parolin, expressed the Holy Father’s prayerful intercession to the Lord for the
eternal rest of his soul and imparted heartfelt condolences to his family and
to all who mourn his loss. Suarez, who died on Sunday at the age of 81, was the
country’s first post-Franco leader. The statesman helped to draft the 1978 constitution
and was a key figure in Spain’s democratic transition. He was buried on Tuesday in
his hometown of Avila.
