(Vatican Radio) Venezuelan Authorities confirm they are investigating members of the
Security Forces who are accused of overstepping the mark, during the five weeks of
nationwide unrest.
Venezuela's Attorney General Luisa Ortega Diaz, has confirmed
that Prosecutors are investigating 60 cases of alleged human rights abuses by security
forces, and that so far 15 individuals have been arrested. Attorney General Ortega
has pledged that where cases are proved, there will be consequences. But she has also
pointed out that the overall unrest is part of an undermining and carefully planned
international attack on Venezuela.
President Nicolas Maduro stresses that
what is happening is a fascist orchestrated coup. Opposition leaders point to 56 percent
annual inflation, crumbling infrastructure, increasing shortages of basic commodities
and spiralling lawlessness.
Main opposition leader and ex-opponent in the
Presidential Election Henrique Capriles, has agreed to meet Maduro, but this has yet
to be scheduled. Meanwhile the situation continues to deteriorate.
