Pope’s tweet assures sinners Jesus is merciful

March 24, 2014 - Pope Francis on Monday posted a message on the social media assuring Christians that Jesus is close to sinners with his unfailing mercy. “Jesus is never far from us sinners. He wants to pour out on us, without limit, all of his mercy,” the Pope wrote on his Twitter account @pontifex. The mercy of God has been a major theme of the year-long pontificate of Pope Francis, who never tiring of reminding Christians that God seeks out sinners who are humble and who acknowledge their sins. The Pope’s reflections on Sunday’s Gospel about the Samaritan woman was one on God’s mercy reaching out to sinners. His two days of reconciliation with God this week is another example.
