Pope blesses peace torch, meets representatives of religions
March 19,2014: March 19, 2014 - Pope Francis on Wednesday blessed the peace torch
of St. Benedict hoping it will move hearts. “I wish this initiative be able to bring
about that peace in the heart which only Christ can give,” he said blessing the Benedictine
Peace Torch at the end of his general audience. The torch was accompanied by a delegation
comprising of faithful from the Italian towns of Norcia, Subiaco e Cassino, which
are linked with the life of St. Benedict, one of the co-patrons of Europe. Before
the start of the audience, Pope Francis met a delegation of some 20 representatives
of various religions of the world at the Casa Santa Marta residence in the Vatican.
The religious representatives, many of them Asians, are in Rome for a conference promoted
by the Focolari Movement, that promotes the ideals of unity and universal brotherhood.
