Jimmie Lunceford and his orchestra

Jimmie Lunceford was a jazz alto saxophonist and bandleader in the swing era. It was during his days as an athletic instructor at Manassas High School in Memphis Tennessee, that Lunceford put together his first band, The Chickasaw Syncopators, made up of students and colleagues. The band started its professional career in 1929 and made its first recordings a year later. Please join me today at 2:30 pm for some Jimmie Lunceford and his orchestra sides from 1933 and ’34.
