Argentine bishop says new policies urgently needed as drugs spread
March,12,2014: As drugs have entered all levels of society , new policies for young
people are urgently needed said Bishop Virginio Domingo Bressanelli of Neuquen and
First Vice President of the Argentine Episcopal Conference. The prelate told Fides
newsagency he is very concerned that drug use among the young increases every day,
and the country lives a really tremendous reality and conflict in this regard. "We
have to think of new policies to protect children and youth from this scourge. We
have to offer something different to the young, particularly those who not see the
future, have no family support, and therefore seek happiness in what seems to be the
easiest thing", the prelate added. He concluded by highlighting that this problem
is not solved with criminalization and prison. The path must be different, he added,
so that children and young people are able to discover the meaning of their lives
and future prospects". Source: Fides
