Gravity and 12 Years a slave big winners at Oscars
(Vatican Radio) The stars were out in force for the film industry’s biggest night
of the year. The 86th Academy Awards on Sunday night saw nominated Directors,
Actors and Actress’s walking the red carpet in the hope of winning the much coveted
Oscar. The big winners of the night were the film Gravity and the slavery drama
"12 Years a Slave" which won the Academy Award for best picture
British director
Steve McQueen's portrayal of pre-Civil War American slavery won two other Oscars,
including best supporting actress for newcomer Lupita Nyong'o and best adapted screenplay.
The
best director honour went to Alfonso Cuaron, for Gravity which won a total of 7 awards.
For best foreign language film, Italy took its 11th Oscar in that category with
"The Great Beauty," a film about life in Rome and a writer in crisis.
Its director
Paolo Sorrentino collected the prize.
Other winners on the night included Cate
Blanchett for Best Actress and Matthew McConaughey who took the best actor award.
